Our Definition of a Luxury Lodge

  • Intimate accommodation in a unique location, usually country. Urban exceptions may be included if the accommodation meets the general criteria.
  • The best lodges have great soul and are characterised by outstanding personalised service. It’s more about a positive memorable ‘experience’, than a simple hotel stay.
  • Normally these properties would have less than 20 rooms but we do not exclude larger properties, especially if they meet the ‘individual service’ requirement.
  • Often a lodge is within easy reach of outdoor adventures and activities such as hiking, game safaris, skiing, hunting, fly-fishing, mountain biking, scuba diving, cultural experiences, wine/food tours.
  • As these lodges are normally in sensitive areas special attention has been given to the ecological awareness of the operators, and what ‘best-practice’ protocols they have in place.
  • Awards, press reviews and customer feedback have been considered and are a critical part of the assessment process.
